JT is buying Gallaher Ltd.
Spring 2007:
JT (Japan Tobacco) is buying the British company Gallaher Ltd. and so Austria Tabak (Tobaccoland) has a new owner.

Too much "cheap" cigarettes
March 2006:
Because there are some cheap-products and some cheap import-cigarettes on the market, Austria Tabak also has to reduce prices of some brands. Because Austrian Government wants to make a minimum-price for cigarettes (€ 3,40) by law - so it looks like in near future many cheap brands will not be on Austrian market anymore.

On June 22, 2001 - 41 % of AUSTRIA TABAK was sold to British company Gallaher Ltd.

Austria Tabak bought Swedish Match

AUSTRIA TABAK bought in May/June 1999 the Swedish Company "Swedish Match" and AT has now 6 facotries where they produce their cigarettes:
1.) Schwaz (Tyrol/Austria)  2.) Hainburg (Lower Austria/Austria)  3.) Linz (Upper Austria/Austria)  4.) Fürstenfeld (Styria/Austria)  5.) San Gwann (Malta)  6.) Malmö (Sweden)
